MAT (Machine-Aided Translation)
Machine-assisted translation process, in which human translators use translation memory (TM) or machine translation aids. This will increase consistency and speed up the translators' work considerably.
Marketing Collateral
All the media used by a company to communicate with its customers and prospective customers - e.g. website, brochures, newsletters, information sheets, reports, etc.
MT (Machine Translation)
Machine translation is a complex computer technology that translates text from one human language to another. At its current level, MT can provide valuable assistance to the human translators. Since MT is best at fast bulk production rather than quality, its cost-effectiveness should be evaluated not on a per-project basis, but across sets of projects.
See CAT (Computer-Aided Translation).
MLV (Multi-Language Vendor)
A vendor capable of localizing a product into multiple languages simultaneously. Working with an MLV may be advantageous for lower overall costs and improved consistency between different language versions. However, not all MLVs directly employ all the necessary personnel, so they may have to use Single-Language Vendors as subcontractors.
See Single-Language Vendor.
Mother-Tongue Translator
A translator who is a native speaker of the target language and uses that language routinely in the relevant subject areas. This translator is aware of new terminology and the latest linguistic nuances in the target language.
Multilingual
Using or having the ability to use several languages. Refers to software that supports more than one language simultaneously, thereby allowing the end user to select multiple languages and formats. This software allows data containing multiple languages to be entered, processed, presented and transmitted multi-nationally.
Multilingual Workflow System (MWS)
A computer program, which creates an environment that supports and orchestrates a range of activities that facilitate the development of multilingual products. A MWS should contain globalization management system (GMS) for managing multilingual content, along with translation memory (TM) and machine translation (MT).
Multimedia
Relates to the combined use of several media and computer-based, interactive applications that have multiple media elements, including text, graphics, animations, video, and sound. |
