Pidgin
Language with a very limited vocabulary and a simplified grammar. Pidgins usually arise to permit communication between groups with no language in common; if a pidgin becomes established as the native language of a group, it is known as a Creole.
See also Creole Language and Lingua franca.
Pre-translation
Involves the preparation of files for translation where the existing files already contain related segments of previously translated data. Only 100% matches are replaced, with the result being a set of files containing both source and target language terminology.
See TM (Translation Memory).
Project management (PM)
Project management (PM) is the systematic planning, organizing and controlling of allocated resources to accomplish project cost, time and performance objectives.
Pseudo Localization
Pseudo localization is a simulation of localized product. Every string is replaced by a semi-random pseudo-localized string. The product can then be tested for its localizability.
Pseudo Translation
Similar to a test run which seeks to imitate the translation process rather than actually produce a translation. A text string is taken and put through a translation-like process, which alters it and produces a new string. The text string is frequently changed as a result of this process, as pseudo-translation is done to illustrate the potential problems that may occur when the translation is actually done. |
